FAIRNILEE.
Great to be back on Fairnilee. I have to commend Mark Hislop the Boatman (Even with no boat, they are traditionally “boatmen” on Tweed not ghillies! Why, on the upper river I don’t know but hey ho.) The beat is just so beautifully kept and the fishing lodge in the old sawmill, quite the best I have ever enjoyed my piece in.
Water just over 3ft on arrival but clearing. Dropped 4 inches during the day. Not really enough for the beat which works best at 1ft 6ins to 2ft.
We tried hard but not even an offer. Worse was that we watched them get, certainly, two fish on the slacker water on the other side. One in the Yair Boat pool and one in the Raeweil. The one I saw was very colored.
As ever we hope it will be better tomorrow.
