Tay report 4th May 2015

Salmon  fishing can be a truly cruel mistress at times… Water at a lovely height for the latter part of last week. Donald had 5 on Saturday bring his total to 11 and Tony 20 for the week. One of the locals had 8 on the Town water by the bridge. Then the heavens opened. […]

Tay Report wk 6th April 15

Well, what can you say other than just 2 fish for the week, 8 & 10lbs both caught by Dennis P one on the fly the other on a Kynock, one from Murthly 1 with Donald, the other from Murthly 2 with Tony. But perhaps the score did paint a slightly worse picture than the […]

Murthly on Tay 10th April 2015

Water back up again, 2ft 10ins on Tony’s gauge and once again the blazing sun shone from a cloudless sky!!!! Even more frustrating was that I lost a fish in the meetings on for a minute of so. I did point out that had Tony not chosen a fly he had tied, for me it […]

Murthly on Tay 9th April 2015

Unbelievable. Unbroken sunshine all day and fishing in shirtsleeves. Its the beginning of April for heavens sake! Water level stubbornly refuses to drop, no doubt due to snow melt from the highlands. We did see a small run of fish go through at about 2.30pm but they weren’t stopping for us. Frustrating or what?

Murthly on Tay 8th April

Water holding rather frustratingly at just around the 2ft mark and another day of blazing sunshine not helping our cause. Notwithstanding, Dennis P promptly added a second fish to his tally taken from Tonys boat at the meetings on Stenton, a sea-liced 12 pounder. We didn’t see a fish on the upper beat all day […]

Murthly on Tay 7th April 2015

River has dropped a little to about 2ft on the gauge which just brings the lower water into a fishable height. Better day too with high cloud to break up the brightest sun. As a consequence we got off the mark with a sea liced 8lb fish for Dennis P fishing a cascade from the […]

Murthly on Tay 6th April 2015

I should be reporting bitterly cold conditions and fresh fish creeping through on cold high water… Err no, try 21 degrees, blazing sunshine, shirtsleeves and a very awkward water height. The height at which fish just motor through and stop for nothing. We saw a couple of fish on the Upper Water but not even […]

Tay before we go

Just had a chat with Donald… Water is still 4ft on the old gauge (just under 3ft on the Caputh gauge) and at that awkward height for Murthly, but they lost two yesterday and have seen fish running through.  Tony Black on Stenton has had 2 this week so far. Numbers for the system seem […]
