Traquair. Water at 2ft first thing and rose to over 3ft and colored by lunchtime on heavy rain all night. I managed a brief encounter in the home pool before it went dirty. Despite the buggeration factor of the weather, we were not encouraged by just 11 fish of the whole Tweed yesterday (fishtweed) when […]

Tweed 25th October 2022
Water down to 2′ on the gauge. Still a tad high. Perfect weather, mild and overcast Just one colored cock grilse for one of our team again today from the House Pool. One or two old fish sloshing about but I think it is the usual game of waiting for new fish. Hopefully they are […]
Tweed 24th October 2022
TRAQUAIR 24th October 2022 Water 2’3″ on the gauge after heavy rain yesterday it rose to 2’6″ by lunchtime and slightly colored. Difficult height but just about fishable. One of our team had a 5lb grilse from just above the bridge RB, otherwise just a few trout. Oh, except I also caught a bright silver […]
Traquair, Tweed 3rd November 2021
Water was down to 2ft 6ins, just coming back to a better height… just as my week finishes. Another sea trout to at least give a tug but no fish for me. One small grilse was caught by one of the other rods but that was it for our three days on Traquair. BTW, for […]
Traquair, Tweed 2nd November 2021
Water 3ft 6in down to 2ft 9ins today… frustratingly still not a good height. But at least at this height you stand a chance if a head of fish comes through. Sadly they did not. I only saw two fish all day and had a single pull from one of the old residents. That was […]
Traquair, Tweed 1st November 2021
River dropped a couple of foot or so over Sunday to 3ft 7ins and still fairly coloured but fishable. Not a good height as new fish tend to run straight through and the residents are hard to get down to. But I was lucky enough to get three sea-trout one of about 3 to 4lbs […]
Fairnilee, Tweed 30th October 2021
Still no let up from the relentless rain until about 2pm today. River still just under the 6ft mark having been up to 7ft in the night and still very dirty. Gave it a try though, fishing the slower and thinner bits of water, but neither saw nor touched anything. Probably a case (which I […]
Fairnilee Tweed 29th October 2021
Oh dear…. Water rose to 9ft yesterday with widespread flooding along the valley. Down to just under 6ft on the gauge by lunchtime today but more heavy rain had the river rising yet again and still very coloured. A pleasant aside though was to visit the falls on the Leithen and watch the salmon and […]
Tweed 28th October 2021
Arrived last evening crossing an already flooded Teviot and Ettrick to find Upper Tweed still clear – just! Overnight heavy rain and the river 7ft this morning rising to 9ft by lunchtime. The main excitement of the day was watching a picnic table come past, thankfully without the picnickers!
Elibank 31st October 2020
My last day on Elibank was pretty much a washout. Gales and heavy rain with the water coloring and millions of leaves catching every cast. I fished until lunchtime and drew stumps early for the long drive home. No regrets. 9 salmon and a seatrout for my week and a nice fresh one in the […]
