Fairnilee, Tweed November 1st 2024

Water down to 8ins, gin clear and very mild.

Learned at the hut this morning that 2 of our fishers caught fish of 11 and 25lbs last night as it was getting dark on full floating lines and tiny flies – for heavens sake, in November! Anyway well done to them.

Needless to say I tried that today for an hour or so over the residents, but nothing. Tried a sunray, a small fly, nymph style and a great big prawn. I fished pretty much every yard fishable from Elm Weil to Boleside, but not so much as a pull. Alan got a 9lb stale hen at the end of the Island on a small conehead, so at least one fish for the book.

Caberston I gather, a similar story.

Water too warm and not enough of it to bring new fish – if they are still to come. I think we missed the best of it last week when all the big fish came through. I think I was exceptionally lucky to stop my one.

Last day tomorrow then driving home so final report on Sunday
