News just in from Charlie White, who returned from East Ranga this afternoon.
His group had 125 Salmon for three days, which whilst (by East Ranga standards) not record breaking is still good fishing. The serious additional fact is that nearly all the fish they caught were between 10 and 20 lbs and they also caught a number of 20+ pounders. As ever as we travel they are expecting the Grilse to arrive to swell the numbers, but nice to know there are some seriously big fish about as well.
From the stats: As at the end of week 20th July 16 East Ranga has already had 1633 fish as against only about 500 at this time last year, so conditions generally are much improved. The West have caught quite a few more but the average size is apparently way down.
Couple of niggles that we will have to put up with apparently – Lax-a, having said they would change the beat rotation into moving two beats at a time to get round the system faster, have not. They have apparently reverted back to where we were. Also it is now a policy that we cannot take drinks into the main lodge so you will have to keep your duty free in your room!
But as we all know, there are few problems that cannot be rectified by catching loads of fish so lets get to it!
Full report upon my return next week.
