I have just booked a week at the Tingvoll Lodge on the River Verdal in the Trodelag region of Norway.
Bit last minute, but John Olav Oldren, who I haven’t seen for many years, offered me an opening at what I think is a very reasonable price. A lot of rods had their fishing cancelled by the Norwegian environment agency closing rivers last year and this has left some fairly rare vacancies. I am told by those in the know that this will not happen this year.
Though I fished (and indeed taught) for many years on Stjordall, Gaula and to a lesser extent the Orkla and Neidalva, in the Trondelag, I have never fished the Verdal, so this is a bit of an experiment.
But, I gather that this is some wonderful water, comfortable accommodation and of course as ever with Norway, not numbers of fish but the very real chance of a whopper!
I am excited to be going back. There are a couple of extra rods still available, so anyone interested in joining me, let me know.
