With yet more of the roller coaster weather ride to come – they are warning of more snow at the weekend – we kick off our new season on Monday.
A bi-product of the weather is that the lakes are in fine fettle, the big lake just a hint of colour but the smaller lake crystal clear.
Interestingly (for me anyway) is that the frogs are at least 3 weeks late in Spawning this year – hence I have held my potatoes back. I have seen a few frogs and toads gathering but as yet no action. The fieldfares and Skylarks have been back for some time but the Wood ducks returned only last week, again about three weeks behind. The swallows and Martins are still not back. All of which suggests a late spring which is good for the fishing.
Now if we can just avoid the April to July drought we had last year…
